Initially pursuing music as his primary artistic medium, Add Subtract honed his skills in music production and sound engineering at The Academy of Contemporary Music in his hometown of Guildford. Transitioning to a career as a DJ, he performed at clubs and events across the UK while also managing his own record label and promoting fellow artists. It was during this period that he developed a keen interest in rave flyers and posters. Inspired from a young age by the explosive works of Roy Lichtenstein and the iconic imagery of Andy Warhol, as well as discovering street art from pioneers like Blek Le Rat, Banksy, and Mr Brainwash in his late teens, Add Subtract has always found art to be both inspirational and captivating. Often intertwined with street art is the urban decay that lurks in plain sight across our cities—torn posters, stickers, tags, and layers of worn paint mingling with vibrant graffiti on crumbling surfaces—aesthetic elements that heavily influence Add Subtract’s artistic style. In today’s culture, celebrity status and worship are ubiquitous, with the ability to observe their lives unfolding at our fingertips. We’re entranced by their stories, successes, and failures, globally inspired by their fashion choices and lifestyles. Yet, only the truly iconic or unique individuals find their way into Add Subtract’s “Twisted Icons” series. Through his execution of a contemporary mixed-media style, Add Subtract crafts a unique storytelling collage, chronicling the lives and times of our heroes and icons. Immersed in the history and craftsmanship of each subject, he meticulously incorporates every detail, with each piece often fuelled by pivotal moments in the subject’s narrative. Rich in layers and hidden meanings, Add Subtract’s artwork invites viewers on a journey of discovery with every gaze. In these very different environments, each of which possesses a uniquely picturesque natural beauty, the artist began from an early age to develop his aesthetic approach. He has always had a keen eye for detail, grounded in a gift for looking closely at the human experience. “I’ve always been interested in observing people,” he recalls, “and in the details of how we interact with one another.” He put this natural ability to task when he began working on illustration and graphic-design projects while in high school. From his mother, an artist and graphic designer, he learned the fundamentals of composition and typography, the nuances of positive and negative space and the relationships between them. Using sheets of Letracet—a system for transferring typeface—proved particularly instrumental in developing a methodology for layering and collage, which continue to inform his works on canvas and paper. He learned old-school techniques, hands-on and mechanical, in keeping with a Bauhaus-like appreciation for perfectionism, integrity, and hard work. Kringen began painting at 14. Then as now, drawing was central to his approach. He studied vintage anatomy atlases and drew meticulously in his journals, working through myriad permutations of bones and skin, angle and pose, muscles in motion. Honing his natural talent for figuration through long and exhaustive study, he arrived at an understanding of the figure that is both intuitive and virtuosic. On acrylic and mixed media on canvas, Kringen lays down linework with a Micron pen in ever-more-complex compositions, often with the addition of gloss mediums to bring out the layers’ reflectivity and prismatic character. In some pieces he incorporates gold and silver leaf to heighten drama and luxuriance, recalling the mosaic-like work of Gustav Klimt—who, along with fellow Austrian Expressionist Egon Schiele, stands among Kringen’s most prominent influences. It was in 2011 that he began painting in the style with which he is now most associated: a technique fusing drawing and painting, line and brushstroke, with fragmented shapes undergirding the imagery. Notably, this is not simply a stylistic conceit, but more a way of perceiving reality. “Ever since I was young,” Kringen notes, “I’ve spent most of my time observing people: trying to break people down, in a visual sense, into small categorizations of their features, their mannerisms, the way they twitch their nose...” His hypersensitivity to likeness and gesture is key, for this is what distinguishes his portraits from those by artists who strive to depict idealized beauty as an end in itself. Yes, there is an undeniable beauty to Kringen’s subjects, but it does not follow strictly conventional paradigms. There is an individuality, a capturing of idiosyncracies and eccentricities, of optimism and fatalism, light and dark, in his work. He is not painting archetypes, but rather illuminating the essential characters of real people in a highly refined genre of psychological portraiture. The fragmented linework, the grids of planes he uses as lenses to focus these characteristics, is sui generis but never gimmicky; above all it is a tool for defining and refining the features of the face, adding depth and definition. By expressing the power of light playing amongst the water drops, this artist shows the abstract, surreal side to the natural world. Her seascapes follow a deep tradition which Johnson modernises and brings to a contemporary forefront. Colours sink below a piercing white surface as oceans and landscapes drift in and out of a sweeping hazy mist. The sky appears deep and brooding, the colours revealing a darkness that battles with the flashes of light. When shapes and figures do reveal themselves they appear lost and fragile against the infinite space of the world around. Her paintings are instantly recognisable, and she has established a considerable following on the contemporary art scene. Her works allow the viewer to write their own story about the characters she portrays, and so, make them very endearing. Initially, Amy drew inspiration from her background in Fashion Design. Her debut collection, in 2017, featured a gang of flamboyant flamingos who all looked as if they were strutting their stuff down the catwalk. They were all quickly snapped up by her very first collectors and her feathered friends gang grew. In June 2018, she held her first solo exhibition, which enabled her to grow her famous flamingos into a whole host of recognisable animal characters – all with their own story to tell! More recently, her animals have started to wear clothes, enter beauty pageants and wear sunglasses on their holidays – they’ve really gained a whole life of their own over the years and are now featured in galleries all over the country. Since this time, Amy’s career has grown along side her family and where she once took inspiration from the catwalk, she now takes it from family life and in particular her daughter, Robyn. The first of these family inspirations was, her sell out limited edition, ‘Tiny Toes’. Depicting a family of three flamingos splashing in the water. This has given rise to a whole host of baby animals and family inspired artworks. Some of her latest pieces even feature a little Robin bird as homage to her daughter. The character Amy brings to her animals has also been noticed by many a dog lover, and she now has a pet portrait portfolio as big as the entrants list to Crufts! On leaving school Protsouk attended the prestigious Lugansk School of Fine Art, followed by a Masters Degree at the Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute; widely regarded as one of the worlds finest art training programmes. Here, Protsouk studied under Evsey Moiseenko- a world renowned contemporary of Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. Moiseenko adopted Protsouk as his protegee, recognizing the potential of his already remarkable talent. Protsouks early works reflected the melancholy of the Soviets living conditions; using heavy textures and dark colours. In 1994 Protsouk moved with his family to the US, where he quickly established himself as a prominent figure on the contemporary art scene. His paintings became more colourful; his subjects more joyful, celebrating life in the freedom of American society. Many of his artworks now centre around the universal theme of love, frequently depicting couples in the midst of passionate dances or embraces. Unafraid to work to large scales, Protsouks elaborate pieces burst with vibrant colours, intricate shapes and varied textures. His use of constructive line demonstrates his innate creative ability and understanding of the human form, drawing comparisons to the figurative works of Michaelangelo. Never one to rest on his laurels, the artist works today from a studio within his own gallery in Pennsylvania, continuing to experiment with a range of media and subject matter. His evident passion and dedication to his practice has deserved him phenomenal commercial success, having completed commissions for Johnnie Walker and Coca Cola. Anna loves travelling and documenting interesting parts of nature, whether it be the sky, the sea, or the pools and harbours around it. The places she visits live long in her memory, and she brings them back to life on canvas with her own interpretation. Anna is great believer in the positive power of art and treats it as a real necessity for our emotional existence. Anna starts a painting by creating a suggestion of the mark using acrylic, gesso or other media and then covers it with many layers of oil paint. Anna uses both glaze and impasto techniques which date back to the times of the Italian Renaissance. This method employs numerous semi-transparent layers of paint, which modifies the appearance of the underlying structure. Each colour and their mix on the canvas has deep spiritual meaning for Anna, creating the 'landscape of the soul’ and a symbiosis between the artist and the viewer. Texture is an integral part of Anna’s work, and she enjoys the process of ‘evolving ‘areas. She works mainly with palette knives, her fingers, and a variety of other implements, as well as the traditional paint brush to create diversity in her mark-making. Anna lives with the painting for weeks and constantly makes changes and adds detail to make sure she has captured everything she wanted to say. The combination of texture, technique strong colours and a dominant appreciation of light and shadow ensures that Anna’s work is both uplifting and has positive overtones. He always had a keen interest in art ever since his grandfather introduced him to the work of John Varley, the renowned 18th Century watercolour artist, as the Varleys are related to the Jeffery family. He first realised he wanted to be an artist in secondary school. A few classmates and him used to have bets to see who could draw the best portrait of someone. He really enjoyed going to school and showing them to see their reaction. He painted a portrait of his dad for a mock GCSE which got admired by the entire art class. He continued to study Art to degree level. He received a lot of guidance and advice throughout the years but his technique is mostly self taught. When studying Art at College and University, he was mainly left to his own devises. He was given a subject and asked to come up with a portfolio of work and to develop an idea to a few final images. Teachers didnt teach him techniques, which meant he had to learn on our own. He always wanted to paint with oils and come up with colourful detailed paintings, this wasnt always well received by his tutors, but his classmates were always quite impressed with what Ben came up with. It was then that Jeffery picked up methods and techniques to get the mark making he wanted with oil paints. Its a case of trial and error a lot of the time, trying new ways of controlling the paint, from there his style has evolved. A lot of the time a painting evolves as he paints it. Ben always has a basic composition in mind but he lets brush come up with the shapes and he chooses colour almost on the spot. Other times Jeffery sees an image in his head and quickly sketch it out. He normally works in two stages: he first paints the entire canvas in base colours. After it has dried, he paints a second layer, adding more and more detail. After he finishes a painting, he leaves it a day or so before look at it again, this helps Ben pick up on areas that need changing. His work is fairly diverse, ranging from portraits to landscapes, in both pencil and oils. He loves working with vivid, bright colours to create a unique and modern style. He is huge Sci-fi movie fan and he loves special effects. There was a time after he finished University when he wanted to be a concept artist for films and video games. Ben tried digital painting and got very good results, but paint just has a depth and feel that cant be beaten. He still search on internet for concept artwork and get a lot of inspiration from that type of imagery. Jeffery also gets a lot of inspiration from views around him: his parents have a house in the Herefordshire countryside and one on the Isle of Harris and both have stunning views which constantly give him ideas and inspiration. He is largely self-taught, although his late mother was a skilled artist and she taught him a lot about observation and draftsmanship. The first work Ben ever approached galleries with was inspired by the British coastline. He was always drawn to the sea and while he has enjoyed the different challenge of landscape painting, standing on a beach, under a far-reaching sky is the ultimate escapism , and so his paintings naturally developed from there. He paints with imagined realism, looking for the escapist ideal in every scene. In being self-taught, Ben previously challenged himself to produce a thousand small studies, over a number of years, to improve his technique. These small study pieces not only taught him valuable skills, but were sold to collectors all around the globe, and at the last count, these studies have been sent to buyers in 22 different countries worldwide. Ben describes this as an incredibly humbling statistic, but it was very much the key to his continued success as a painter. In 1998, he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts de Cherbourg, where Lejeune and Valadié became his teachers. By the age of 19, Benoît was painting full-time, first exploring watercolours on trips to Morocco and eventually settling into working with oils and a palette knife. Today, Benoît creates dreamy, luminescent urban landscapes that radiate warmth and energy. The artist draws his inspiration from his travels, and photographs urban scenes from which he draws out all their emotional power- it is "the idea of bringing the subject into my own world," he explains. Benoît's paintings are spontaneous works, based on the study of light and contrast, more than on the minutiae of detail. Under the sharp stroke of a palette knife, he plays with transparency, streaks, and fades to create texture and movement, creating visions of New York, London or Paris in their purest shape, and saturated with colour. The harmony he achieves, between warm colours and cool blue greys, slowly pushes his creations towards abstraction. Benoît begins by working on the backgrounds of his paintings, before focusing on characters, cars, and 'life movement'. It is only at the very end of this process that he highlights detail, allowing the shapes of an urban scene to emerge. Since 2004, Benoît has been exhibiting his work in several galleries across Europe, and has been the guest of honour of many distinguished exhibitions. For his gallery works, Robson paints exclusively with oils. With exhibitions in the UK, Europe, Australia and the US, he is fast building a reputation as one of the most exciting new painters in the contemporary scene. In the studio, Robson paints works of sweet pop-culture nostalgia - then subjects them to attack. Erasing squeegee strokes disfigure iconic figures, transforming them into something new. Something more. Gods from art, cinema and cartoon culture are assaulted, detained and questioned. It’s a traumatic process but through it something impossible happens. He brings the dry husks of our cultural dead back to life. By damaging immortal, unchanging pop-exteriors, Robson gives a glimpse of what has been lost. He restores to Marilyn Monroe the vivacious life stolen by a million knock-off coffee mugs and t-shirts. On Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse, he casts a spell of real-world believability, far stronger than any cast by a Disney fairy. To each and every pop-culture icon he paints – he gives back an essence of truth and immediacy we’ve long since lost. His work changes the unchangeable, makes it immediate and brings it so close we can almost reach out and touch it. Like with many artists, Brenda finds inspiration in surrounding landscapes and seascapes. She reflects nature in each unique artwork, paying attention to the beauty of detail, whilst sharing her perspective of balance. Brenda finds “beauty in the contrasts and contradictions of nature”, and endeavours to recreate these juxtapositions in her unique fusion of texture and colour. She is adventurous in her approach to every single piece and rejoices in the freedom of creativity that her style allows. Often working from life and models, Carl explores how the physicality of the paint combined with the density of pigment can give a sense of life radiating from the canvas: as if to evoke the vigour of the human form. His approach to painting explores the treatment and handling of paint whilst conveying expressionistic nudes and landscapes. His paintings arguably focus just as much on the medium of paint, and how it reacts with the surface, as they do on the subject of the painting. Through the veils of layers, achieved by continuously accumulating and scraping back the paint, a figure emerges as if to suggest how the sitter itself has become enveloped and partly obscured by the energy of the paint. His work draws from sculptural influences, such as Manuel Neri as well as from colourists, such as Morandi. Melegari frequently uses a monochromatic palette to generate the idea that he is playing with the reduction of form: often abstracting and delineating parts to create a more non-figurative feel. He often uses this muted palette to replicate a sense of isolation and seclusion. He then applies paint liberally and without reserve: allowing it to drip spontaneously to both literally and symbolically mirror the personality of the sitter. The mystery and excitement of creating never fails to amaze me. The possibilities are endless.” Carrie Clayden is an abstract floral artist from California and her painting style is semi abstract in nature and dreamy and ethereal in feeling. She discovered that dry brushing and the use of light was the key to her goal of creating a wistful, delicate atmosphere on her canvas. The abstraction of her work imply stories that are untold, as the luminous images vibrate with life and energy. The foreground and background negotiate and dance to an exquisite never-ending narrative. “I could paint on one canvas forever, but I force myself to do several at once. Old things fascinate me, the stories they could tell. I want to capture that essence with my own hands. Painting with abandon is my mission." A celebration of the advent of spring; the confidence of femininity and the fountain of rebirth, Carrie’s paintings exhibit a richness and depth as though each piece had been created over a lifetime. “Layers are everything. The time, the history and the stories that come from building layers all make for a more evocative painting". Claude Monet has always been Carrie’s favourite artist and impressionism her favourite artist movement. The influence of the style is clearly evident and was accentuated once she began to ‘paint’ with her fingers; “Using my fingers to paint flowers was a game changer for me, it brought me such joy to dip my hands in colour and literally put myself into the painting… it is like dancing the finger marks onto canvas like a waltz”. I had the opportunity to work on many campaigns for many different companies Hasbro, Mattel, Cadbury's, Saga, Corgi Toys to name just a few. In many cases I worked closely with the designers producing visuals and taking the project right through to the finished illustration stages. I latter went on to illustrate for publishing, on teaching books, magazines, posters as well as being commissioned by The Guinness Book Of Records. I now am a fine artist producing mainly one subject, being street scenes of the world. I like to evoke a sense of atmosphere and the feeling of being their through a loose style taking my influence from the Impressionists and Fauvism, using my visualising ways to produce the work. I take on commissions and along side this I also teach workshops and give live demonstrations. My work is mostly influenced from the Impressionists, although I like all forms of painting. I love to paint in a way that is free and loose, not being constrained by detail. I want to convey a sense of atmosphere and as if the painting was a fleeting moment in time. I concentrate on the light as being the most important thing within the painting and only adding the detail to knit the scene together, when needed. Having been as a Visualiser in the past as well as an Illustrator, it is from the visualising that I draw a lot of my technique today. I have the one style and like to try different things within it. I love all forms of art, but one of my biggest inspirations is Monet and the way he used paint and the single strokes of applied colour. I also like to make every stroke count and to be seen. This can give a great sense of movement. I am really excited to see what 2020 has to offer and to progress my artist Journey with Buckingham Fine Art. The content of our art lies in what our eyes think."(Paul Cezanne, 1839 –1906). An apt quote that describes the painting of Dietmar Wölfl very well. Astonished in so many ways, observers stand in front of the artist's impressive works, always trying to get to the bottom of the secrets of these brilliant "explosions of colour." Dietmar Wölfl's art is one-of-a-kind. He has managed to establish his technique and dynamics as unique to him, something every artist strives for. His motto, "I reach for the colours until the unexpected occurs," describes his modesty when speaking about his work, but it is not all there is to his finished pieces. Dietmar worked as an artist on the side, whilst training as an interior designer in his parent's business from 1970 to 1973. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1974 to 1978 and in 1985, he had moved to Munich to work as an independent artist and give him a good basis for his active artistic development. He was mentored by prominent artist Robert Zielasco, who significantly influenced his painting style, making it what it is today. In turn, Dietmar has now become the teacher and offers courses at well-known academies and workshops in his large studio at home, a converted farm in Bavaria. This exceptional, international artist has gained a large audience with his sensational mixing techniques in oil, acrylic (bold and lean), mostly on large-format canvases. From an art historical point of view, the art of Dietmar Wölfl is, if you will, colour-field painting brought to perfection. His pronounced courage in applying paint to the surface (for example, by shaking), his many years of experience, and his very good eye for composition allow him to create outstanding works of art with immense depth which regularly do well on the art market. For years, the artist has exhibited his works at international exhibitions and trade fairs and has always received significant critical acclaim from art lovers and connoisseurs, with the infamous Damien Hirst as one of his collectors. Douglas’s transition into the world of contemporary fine art was a natural progression for his talents, with oil paint becoming his medium of choice in creating light, mood and atmosphere in all his works. His attraction to figurative art enables him to portray human nature in all its emotional complexities and also to create that same sense of atmosphere, place and time in his paintings of iconic cityscapes. ‘My aim is to emotionally connect with the viewer through my work’ he says, ‘whether they be happy, melancholic or even sad. As human beings we all experience these timeless emotions and I hope my paintings ignite people’s imagination and evoke their own personal memories’. His private commissions include the illustrious Savoy Hotel in London where his painting entitled ‘Cloudbreak, River Thames’ is on permanent display in the hotel’s renowned River Room. After being elected as a full member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) in 2013 he decided to move on in 2020 to concentrate on figurative and city painting. Douglas is represented internationally with galleries in the UK, USA, Paris and Amsterdam and holds an impressive history of important exhibitions which include his popular solo shows. He has been the recipient of several prestigious painting awards and the subject of many magazine features and his work is regularly commissioned by corporations and interior designers. Douglas’s ownership of light, atmosphere, place and visual narrative all add up to truly memorable paintings which endorse his ever growing number of collectors worldwide. Quote from Kiaran MacDonald, Former Managing Director of The Savoy Hotel, London 'Claude Monet famously painted several views of the River Thames from his room on the upper floors of The Savoy during his many visits. As part of the recent refurbishment of the River Room, one of The Savoy’s elegant events rooms, we wanted to commission a contemporary, atmospheric view of the Thames using an artist with great traditional skill. Upon his return to Britain in 2014, he recognised that stencilling lofty French literary quotes on walls was probably an unwise career path to embark upon. Heavily influenced by the Stencil Movement that had its roots in 1960’s Parisian political protest art, Epi adapted his style, eschewing wall for canvas and reinterpreting the visual zeitgeist with a technique (if one could even call it that..) that would incorporate graffiti, Surrealism, Minimalism, Pop, and mid-century poster art. At the heart of his work lies a deep suspicion of the art establishment- whose ignorance, avarice and capriciousness he has long found abhorrent- and a desire to poke fun at the very métier in which he chooses to make his living. Through his work he endeavours to depict a fantastical narrative that runs parallel to the pedestrian and mundane- that is, a secondary reality, one where things both conventional and bizarre live together, as if bourgeois culture were shifted marginally towards chaos and absurdity (or at least that’s what he says…). He strives to bring his work into the reach of a broader base of modern collectors than usual- namely those who would typically shy away from expensive gallery pieces and over-hyped London auctions- until such a day that his work goes for serious money, when he will tell his loyal clients to fuck off and start selling his works to a small coterie of ultra-rich philistines. Epi now lives somewhere near Bath. He hopes that one day, long after his death, he will finally get the recognition he doesn’t deserve. Naturally one of her early influences was the work of Bronislow Linke which she first discovered aged 13, when she would try and mimic his artwork to recreate the overwhelming feeling she felt to see it for the first time. For years Ewa used pen and paper to express her thoughts, spending hours everyday writing in a journal. When she started painting again as an adult, she discovered a clarity and an ability to articulate her ideas much more clearly. Ewa finally had a medium where she could communicate all of the little details that she observed from the world around her, often focusing on that flicker of light, dappled shade or the pattern your eye can see but a camera would miss. Ewas work lies somewhere between Abstract and Impressionism, gesturing at shapes and figures while capturing light and reflections with loose brush strokes. Her work is often heavily textured with bright colours and demonstrates fantastic depth. Ewa enjoys the creativity of playing with what people can see. She strives to capture the feeling in that moment rather than the literal reality, for her this is a massively liberating and emotional experience. Moving from Poland to London was a vital part of Ewas career as an artist, she found the perfect environment to sell her work. On Bayswater Road in Hyde Park, every Sunday Artists would line the streets displaying their paintings for sale. Eventually, as work became more popular, selling countrywide, she wanted to focus on her work without the distraction of Londons hustle and bustle, Ewa and her husband made the move to the Welsh Brecon Beacons, a much more relaxed and familiar surrounding. When British punk rock took over London’s cultural scene in the 1970s, the world turned up the volume and listened. Spearheaded by bands like The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sex Pistols and The Damned, this ear-splitting fusion of anarchy and expression defined a generation. Its working-class angst spoke to a young Mark, and after a chance encounter with the new wave musician Adam Ant at the age of just 11 led to him touring with the band, Mark became drawn to the punk subculture, eventually becoming close friends with some of the movement's pioneers and troubadours, including the Sex Pistols and the Stranglers. A career in videography beckoned, and Mark went on to work as a cameraman and a director of photography for bands like the Police and Frankie Goes to Hollywood before joining the BBC. During his successful film career, Mark has directed and produced documentaries on Billy Fury, the Beatles, John Lennon, David Bowie, Sid Vicious, the Sex Pistols and more. These legendary figures, along with his friend and fellow neon artist Chris Bracey, inspired Mark to create the Illuminati Neon brand. He says: “Allegedly, she burst out laughing but requested that it be changed so that it matched her bathrobes and slippers.” Hand-painted in oils and acrylics at his studio in Shepherd’s Bush, London, his fluorescent creations are just as anarchic as their namesake. The handblown glass neon is formed using a centuries-old technique, echoing the exhilarating mixture of modern and classical that shaped the punk rock aesthetic. She was drawing a bit like every child would do, but her life from the age 5 to 40 something, was filled with everything but art or anything remotely arty. She studied physiotherapy in Finland, lived in Sweden, somehow (long story) ended up in Ireland and after many years working in the beauty industry, running her own salon, she felt tired, bored of it all, and still restless. Life has a beautiful way to fix things, and after few very traumatic months that came out of nowhere, she discovered a way out. This time without running away or moving to another country. She made friends with a canvas that was happy to accept all her moods and tantrums, each brushstroke was like a secret language between the painter and the surface and the colours were words unspoken. She had never experienced a peace like this and suddenly happiness happened, which has been and is the main reason Jaanika is painting today. Today, as a full-time artist, she spends the winter months in her Dublin studio and summers living and working in Estonia, surrounded by the forest and wild animals. She is self-taught, although the word "taught" is not quite correct. She just paints, not really knowing how and few years ago she decided, to never find out the proper "know hows". (If you do something wrong, at least you are not aware of it.) Jaanika's work is very much about colour. It's the main subject, and the rest is about making it to sing and dance. In harmony. She has always been fascinated by the colour, how it affects us all, how we make decisions based on it, often unconsciously. She doesn't want to know the answers, she loves mystery. Today, her paintings can be found in private collections all over the world. She has been collaborating with interior designers, musicians, movie makers. She just paints, first and foremost for herself, but knowing that her paintings inspire other people, make them feel something, is a bonus. From a young age, I pursued my passion for dance, finding joy in movement and expression. Growing up in the countryside, I developed a deep appreciation for nature and the tranquility of the rural landscape. This love, combined with my artistic inclinations, led me to explore the world of art and design. Although my artistic journey took time to fully blossom, it was after the turn of the millennium that I began to see my dreams take shape. After completing my education, I enrolled in an art foundation course in Nottingham, eager to explore my creative potential. To keep my options open, I also pursued a secretarial course, recognizing the importance of versatility. The vibrant allure of London beckoned, and for the next decade, I balanced my artistic pursuits with part-time work in the city. Along the way, I embarked on exciting adventures, traveling the world and embracing the joys of motherhood. It wasn't until 2003, when I made the move to Sussex, that I found my artistic sanctuary. With my own studio, I finally had the space to establish myself as an artist. Over time, I gradually built my profile, exhibiting and selling my work in galleries across the UK and worldwide. Being a nature enthusiast, I strive to depict the essence and enchantment of the natural world in my artwork. Utilizing a layering technique, I build depth and richness in my pieces using acrylics and mixed media. Texture plays a significant role in my work, and accents of gold and silver consistently thread through my creations. Colour is a playful element that often guides the composition of my paintings. With my camera always at hand, I capture fleeting moments in time, ensuring a constant source of inspiration. He showed talent with a pencil at an early age and years down the line, after university and several 9-5 jobs, he chose to put his ability to use. Painting pets, footballers, musicians and taking requests from social media to fund his endeavours, he then launched his popular abstract landscapes into galleries. However, at the age of 24, he felt the need for change, put down the brush and spontaneously left his hometown to live in Vietnam. His travels then took him all across Asia before landing in Australia. It was here where he began to paint again, and began selling in Melbourne and Sydney. Always on the look-out for different and interesting art, Galindo was continually inspired by artists he met overseas, alongside the jungles, coastlines and wildlife he encountered on the way. In 2022, after a pit stop in Sri Lanka for one last taste of Asian life, he returned home to rekindle his passion for creation and pursue his purpose in life. The key to Galindo’s unique style is the inventive ways to apply paint to the canvas. By using different techniques and mediums on top of one another, depth and contrast is created. Powerful contemporary colours are abstractly incorporated with details of wild animals in a loose, energetic style, which combine for an unusual but satisfying end product that demands attention and allows each person to interpret them individually. He attempts to express his own emotion and sentiment in the face of the animals to build a connection with the viewer. Unorthodox tools are used to apply paint including spoons, nails and bits of rubber. Moreover, each single piece of art is irreplicable due to the random nature of propelling paint with a flick of the wrist or a swoosh of the arm. The observer feels drawn in to the painting. Depending on the time of day or year, the light plays a magical part in making the paintings come to life. The Flowerscapes: These vibrant absorbing paintings have an amazing amount of detail in them. Using high quality oil paint and other mediums, Leanne captures an ethereal landscape with glistening flower petals that seduces the observer into touching the artwork. Just as an English country garden changes through he seasons and moves towards the sun, enchantingly the paintings seem to mimic nature. The Seascapes: This style tends to have a romantic, nostalgic feel to it. Reflecting Leanne's mood when she creates the seascapes, she gathers inspiration from her neighbouring coastline, her childhood and her own proposal of marriage amidst Gwithian Towans in Cornwall, looking out to sea. Seascapes have proved a big commission favourite for the romantics and even a couple of commissions have in themselves been unique proposal presents. The Waterscapes: Claude Monet has been Leanne's biggest inspiration when it comes to her waterscapes. Water Lilies reflecting in the quiet ripples show Leanne's tranquillity at it's best. Fascinated by the contrasts of colour, Leanne teases the paint until it evolves with just the right balance of vibrancy and calm. The Moorlands: To anyone who's experienced the beauty of the ever changing English moorland, it is understandable why it has been photographed and painted time and time again. Amidst the heather and gorse, the rolling hills and jagged rock face, there is a genuine feeling that this landscape has been untouched for centuries. As the amber sunsets bathe the moors in stunning light, the colours from natures carpet reflect a beautiful hue, especially as autumn approaches. Leanne captures this enchanting emotion perfectly. As an observer, one can feel the change of the moorland painting as the sun sets and the light changes. Special commissions are welcome. Whenever I had a chance I would get out my pencils and paper and sketch. Through my school years I never really thought about what I wanted to become but I always loved the art class and I always put in 100 per cent and took things a little further and the teachers were very encouraging and always liked my work. Mostly self-taught though I do have A Level art and design, I always wanted to go further into university but It wasn’t affordable for me so after my school years I followed in my father’s footsteps and became a landscape garden designer, and so art was just a hobby in my spare time. I started my own landscape company which was quite successful for a few years but in 2008 I was forced to shut down due to recession. After this I decided to set up a studio in my home and start painting full time. I built up a collection of work and would submit to online galleries and put my work in local art shows and galleries and rented stalls at art markets. My love for the coast and holidays to the coastal regions of Britain has inspired me to create this collection of work. Working in acrylics on canvas I build up layers of textures and colour trying to keep a uniform colour co-ordination as I feel this brings the whole picture together. After that I will get to the fun part of adding all the details which brings the painting to life. I have developed a style of my own over the past few years which I would call modern impressionism and naïve. Inspiration can come from anywhere or anytime, anyplace. I find my ideas and inspiration comes to me mostly when I am about to sleep at night. I will be lying there and many ideas will race through my mind and I’ll have to jump up and note things down or do a quick sketch so I can then put them into practice when I next paint. Sometimes I will just jump up put on my overalls and paint into the early hours because I can’t wait till the next day. Art is my passion which is with me every single day and I couldn’t think of anything more exiting to do and feel very lucky that I can do something that I love. However, the artist describes himself as mostly self taught, having received no formal art qualifications or training. Lambert relocated to Warwickshire with his family in 1996, where he focused on the development of his technique. It was on leaving Newcastle that he began to appreciate the nature of his upbringing; what he had once seen as a concrete jungle now seeming strangely beautiful. Taking inspiration from his childhood, Lamberts pieces have a strong sense of nostalgia, evoking fond memories of a youth that many can relate to. Lambert is an accomplished artist across a range of media, most commonly working in oils on board. His use of colour is minimal, optimistically applying splashes only to the figures that play amidst the otherwise monochromatic landscapes, capturing the joy and vitality of youth. Working from his garden studio, the artist has achieved great success in recent years. In 2014 he was shortlisted as Best Up and Coming Artist in the prestigious Fine Art Trade Guild Awards, and consequently his works are hugely sough-after. Rivans studied 3D design at the University of Brighton, before turning to jewellery design and setting up her own workshop. But an aptitude for the visual arts was in her blood: growing up with her Italian family in Essex, hours of her childhood were devoted to drawing and doodling, listening to music, covering her bedroom walls with film and pop heroes, while she soaked up the televisual culture that would come to form her greatest influence. The visual artists who have defined Rivans’ work include: Max Ernst; Frida Kahlo; Robert Rauschenberg; Richard Hamilton; David Hockney; Sarah Lucas; and Tracey Emin. Yet her influences are not limited to the visual arts: music, film and fashion have helped define her aesthetic, with the likes of David Bowie, Vivienne Westwood, Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch having a huge impact on her practice. Rivans’ artwork is known for its unique approach to collaging. Intertwining different film and TV genres - from vintage Hollywood, to 1970s sci-fi, B-movies and TV trash - Rivans’ work is in a constant dialogue with cultures of the past, reinventing existing film plots and narratives, while spinning bizarre and dreamlike tales. Her use of collage reflects the complex and fragmented world from which the art arises, but an attention to beauty and to harmony of composition gestures optimistically towards the social capacity to piece it back together again. In her pin-up series, Rivans reclaims iconic femininity to champion female strength; her exotic and escapist works are often laced with ominous undertones, to remind us of the darker side of human nature; utopian imagery from 1950s pop-culture speaks to today’s obsession with consumerism; while a persistent love of sci-fi illustrates the fact that Rivans’ work is always a meditation on the greater question of ‘life, the universe, and everything’. Rivans’ process begins with her extensive collection of vintage ephemera, which she scavenges from found books and retro magazines, always on the look-out for that perfect ‘something’ in second-hand shops and at market stalls. Like piecing together an unruly jigsaw puzzle, Rivans begins to collate and assemble the skilfully cut-out fragments and scraps, labouring over long periods and making alteration after alteration, until the collage begins to take shape. Through an intense attention to detail and an artistic sensitivity to colour and composition, each of Rivans’ artworks is the product of months of careful deliberations and decisions, every tiny tweak necessary in the final formation. Rivans’ work takes the form of both large-scale originals and limited edition prints, and notable series’ have included: pin-ups; landscapes; film stills; and 3D box collages. Rivans works from her studio in Brighton: a kooky building, purpose built as a small cinema in 1911. She exhibits work throughout the UK as well as internationally, including Hong Kong, New York and across Europe. Notable solo shows include the Saatchi Gallery, London, and Galerie Bhak, Seoul. In 2015, Rivans was invited to show at Christies, London, for their ‘Out of the Ordinary’ sale. Pin-up portrait ‘Lady Valentina’ is used as the campaign image for both the London and Milan affordable art fairs; ‘Carina’, the face of the Scoop International Fashion Show at Saatchi for 2015; and ‘Scarlett’ head the 2015 Nordea Private Banking campaign for Stockholm Affordable Art Fair. In 2017 and 2018, her work featured in The Times newspaper; and, in 2018, her Film Still ‘Understanding Nothing’ was selected for the Royal Academy’s 250th Summer Exhibition.Rivans was a featured artist on BBC’s Art Ninja show in 2019 and in 2020 she had her first book Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage published " ["ALTERED"]=> string(1) "1" ["NEWITEM"]=> string(1) "0" ["DATES"]=> NULL } [68]=> array(27) { ["C_ID"]=> string(3) "459" ["SURNAME"]=> string(9) "Kaldowski" ["FIRSTNAME"]=> string(7) "Mariusz" ["MIDDLENAMES"]=> NULL ["SALUTATION"]=> NULL ["TITLE"]=> NULL ["SUFFIX"]=> NULL ["CONTACT_TYPE"]=> string(6) "Artist" ["FILEAS"]=> string(18) "Kaldowski, Mariusz" ["FULL_NAME"]=> string(17) "Mariusz Kaldowski" ["DATEADDED"]=> NULL ["DATEAMENDED"]=> string(19) "2024-04-11 16:09:52" ["POSITION"]=> NULL ["ORGANISATION"]=> NULL ["ADDRESS1"]=> NULL ["ADDRESS2"]=> NULL ["CITY"]=> NULL ["PROVINCE"]=> NULL ["COUNTRY"]=> NULL ["POSTCODE"]=> NULL ["FULL_ADDRESS"]=> NULL ["PHONE"]=> NULL ["EMAIL"]=> NULL ["BIOGRAPHY"]=> string(1968) "Mariusz was born in 1962 in Poland. His first Limited Edition release sold out in record time, and soon after he was awarded the Fine Art Trade Guild Award for Best Up and Coming Artist. His work now hangs in galleries and private collections as far afield as Japan, New Zealand, Canada and the US. A vigorous and creative artist, Spain continues to experiment with different techniques and subjects, recently incorporating cityscapes within his figurative works. My main goals are always to create a certain amount of movement within the image, with particular emphasis on setting a mood and atmosphere. His upbringing on the edge of the beautiful Cannock Chase and surrounding open countryside, has played its part in his ongoing affection for wildlife and art. Martin has a natural ability for art, and as a young child he would spend hours drawing and painting. He has mastered his skills over the years and his dedication to art has remained with him. He strives continually to improve and learn more. After leaving school Martin attended Stafford Art College and Wolverhampton University gaining his BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design. Art at this time was still largely pre-digital. He started his art career in 1993 as a Graphic Artist in the gaming machine industry and this was his introduction to commercial art. He created themed artwork for games which included characters, backdrops and animations. In 2013 he became a Creative Director. In 2018 an opportunity arose to leave the gaming industry after 25 years, and he was able to return to his passion for fine art. Martin has worked as a full-time self-employed artist since. He has painted people’s pets on a commission basis for many years, and it was through his own childhood pet ownership that he found a love of animals. Combined with his artistic ability he found a desire to capture their unique spirit and intimacy. Martin will always start by painting the eyes. He feels the eyes are the soul of the animal, and capturing subtle lighting and colours in the reflections brings the subject to life. Martin paints in acrylics on canvas and his ambition is to create beautiful quality work with a high level of realism. He works from carefully chosen photographs, that will show off the subject in a bold and interesting way. He is particularly interested in searching out strong lighting and interesting shadows, that add a level of dynamism to the final piece. He says: “There is nothing like the satisfaction of creating an original piece of art and putting paint to canvas. The absolute joy of making a mark with a paintbrush and bringing it to life is without parallel.” Some of Martin’s paintings are of a large-scale and require a high level of detail and concentration. His ambition is to achieve new artistic boundaries. He aspires to express himself through his traditional crafting skills, and fine art is a vocation that he has set his heart on following. Gieler (1982) started experimenting with graffiti in the late nineties. For years he remained active spraying letters. When he got older, and more ‘mature’ and tired of the fights which are accompanied with this hobby, graffiti slowly evolved in streetart. The friendlier en less illegal character of streetart attracted Michiel above graffiti. Besides, working with stencils was a much better technique to get more details done better and faster. In addition to colouring walls, Michiel began experimenting on canvas. He started by painting a series called ‘anti-heroes’. Focussed on B-listed celebrities / ‘famous’ people from Holland. “In popart everyone was painting Jim Morrison or Marilyn Monroe. So I thought it would be more striking to paint unpopular celebrities”. It worked, in a way that people started noticing his art, but nobody would hang a B-Listed actor from Holland on his or her wall.” The stencilling style was also over its peak in his opinion, and slowly he started experimenting with new different techniques, like collage. In Holland there are more festivals then bikes. Festivals promoting their party’s often with eye-catching posters, pasted on walls. Interested in the graffiti layered above these posters most of the time, but also fascinated by the aesthetics of these posters, Michiel was always observing these ‘collage-walls’. In his eyes these walls could go straight to museums. When he saw work of Raymond Hains and Mimmo Rotella that same year, he was convinced to use collage with street posters as a standard for his new series of artworks. Today he is still using these kinds of street elements in his art. His work is often made up of posters he collects from the murky walls of Amsterdam: “Sustainable art, and it gives an edgy and living character to the painting. Street posters are dirty, bleached and scratched most of the time, this always gives the artwork a living character, as if it’s a part of the street. From damaged festival posters to ‘find-my-cat-flyers’, everything with a nice colour-palette will be used.” Common themes in Michiel’s work are recognizable icons, mostly women, but also famous and non-famous comics. Since 2017 Michiel is working more abstract. Amidst the chaos he always tries to find order in palette and placement, by working in raster and restricting his colour-use. “The chaos has to be friendly and quiet”. He always tries to make a whole new image with all the different elements. “I am always trying to force the viewer to see one image instead of seeing all the loose parts”. Besides, Michiel is often trying to use different colour combinations in most of his new work. “When you are an acrylic or oil painter, you go to an art supply store, you can think ahead what colours you will be using and combining, and you’ll buy them. The exciting part of my technique: I am forced to use colour combinations the streets will give me.” Besides Michiel likes to work with old street posters, he is also using other old material, like damaged brushes, blunt Stanley knives or other older (sometimes) broken tools. “By working with older tools the results are also more surprising and the creations are more unique than creating everything by the rules….” In addition of using posters Michiel still works with spray-paint and stencilling. Screen-printing is also commonly used technique in his work. ‘Actually I use every technique to make my canvas look like a city wall” Michiel underlines there is further not really a big story behind his work. “In my opinion it’s more important the artwork looks nice and appeals to the viewer than it having a deep and intriguing story behind it. But I am always enjoying stories of other artists who are trying to make their artwork sound more important by adding a lot of #blablabla to it”. In his opinion it’s funny to listen to, but it will never make it a masterpiece. Michiel works in his studio in the centre of Amsterdam. In 2017 he started to work more often in different cities across the world, to use foreign posters in his art. His plan for the near future is to visit as much countries as possible, to capture the different street vibes on canvas. Influenced by artists such as Alan Hunt, John Banovich and David Smith, he began to further develop his style using new techniques and switching from acrylic to oil paint. The switch to oil paint facilitated Owain’s desire to achieve a greater sense of depth and realism in his paintings with the aim of creating beautiful representations of the animal world. Owain’s technique is painstaking and requires many hours of dedication to get the desired result. Once the reference images have been chosen, which in itself can take many hours the composition is decided upon and the drawing established. The seascape and landscapes paintings are created from memory, rather than referring to photography, resulting in more abstracted and expressive pieces rather than realistic representation. Each composition explores the structures of city life; whilst the buildings might define its physical presence, “it is the traffic, human activity and noise that can breathe life into any urban centre…it is not only the architectural composition of a city, but also the depictions of the 'hustle and bustle' within the city life experience. All are important aspects of the presentation”. When Paul is not in the studio, he is constantly out with his sketchpad taking impressions and notes that cross his mind whilst travelling and exhibiting. It helps him to see the development of ideas through sketches. “From this sketchpad I can see that I bounce around the same ideas and have the same intentions for my paintings all the time, even though I may not know it at the time. My works of art are visions of thought. A combination of emotions are reflected in my paintings. Art is such an important part of my life, because, for me, there are still a lot of things to discover and learn”. The brushstroke is prevailing in Paul’s compositions. It is dynamic and powerful, and every stroke is significant, commanding the space on the canvas of which it occupies. There is no blurring or softening of stroke, there is only a mesh of distinctive and often contrasting colour. This intensity is delicately balanced, so as not to overshadow the subject that it seeks to portray. Stylistically, there are elements of both Impressionism and Cubism at play in the work as Paul seeks to portrays the personality of his muse. His repertoire of 20th and 21st century icons are often captured at the height of their celebrity heyday, and the style that epitomises Paul’s work ensures that his muses are both timeless and ageless. There is a freshness to the subject, even though we are aware that some are depicted in their advanced years, when the silkiness of youth has long gone - this is both a highly desirable aspect of the work and a talent to be applauded. His unconventional method was honed after experimenting with various surface to achieve the results he sort after. Working on glass allows him to create a softer gradient of colour and tone and a stronger range of contrast allowing him to create the vivid scenes he could not achieve on canvas. Richard has always had a love affair with nature and turned to Turner for his inspiration for paintings of atmospheric events and light. He has been coined the Modern-day Turner on glass. His eye for a distinct facet of American history is impeccable, and his ability to manipulate both the color and wordplay of vintage printed material has earned him reference with the likes of Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Richard Diebenkorn, among other masters from the School of Pop. By taking inspiration from the Golden Age of American popular culture and celebrating figures of the 1950’s and 60’s, Mars’ artwork chronicles an evolving relationship with celebrity. Through the application of a rich color palette and tongue in cheek attitude, Mars’ paintings evoke a vintage quality of design and pay homage to the idealized age of growth and hopefulness that was prevalent in the USA at the end of World War II. A time before the internet and mobile technology, where visual information was not constantly blasted to millions, and there was no such thing as instant digital celebrities, where instead people lived with the myth of the unique, untouchable and unforgettable personalities of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Audrey Hepburn, Elvis Presley, and many others. By merging his own concept of personal idols with those of mainstream culture, Mars is able to focus his work on a deeper analysis of the Golden Age of Americana. His early work focuses on many of the architectural and mechanical forms of the 50’s and 60’s, where muscle cars, motels, kitschy logos, and hulking monuments to the "modern" feeling of the time reigned supreme. More recently, however, Mars’ artwork has shifted toward the culture of celebrity, and he is strikingly attuned to the fact that these instantly recognizable and larger than life personalities continue to resonate not only with contemporary American culture, but with a worldwide market. In 2014, after serious reflection upon his artistic thought, his process, wanting to explore traditionalism from another angle, and through influence from his wife, Mars began to delve deeper into American culture by focusing on Folk Art and Contemporary American Quiltmakers. By combining vintage wallpapers with quilt patterns Mars was able to further differentiate himself from the scores of artists using similar iconic themes. Mars is credited as being the first to incorporate quilt patterns and a folk art sensibility into a pop art aesthetic creating his own genre of folk laced pop. This past year Mars has expanded on his body of work with abstract compositions. This body of work strikes a balance between chaos and control. Employing concepts rooted in abstract expressionism, Mars begins with multi-coloured paint layers of loose and dynamic brushstrokes on vintage newspaper. Choosing to sometimes highlight and sometimes obliterate this record of events acts as rebellion to structure and order. The vintage newspaper is a bridge to the events of the past; anchoring the work in history. The dialogue between the layers of colour; the events glimpsed through the paint; sets the palette for the final composition. To apply order to the chaos Mars precisely cuts the painted newspaper into predetermined patterns. Based on traditional quilt patterns from American history, the mix of handcraft and the meditation of time contained in that often overlooked folk art, these tessellations echo the backgrounds utilized in his representational body of work. As he rebuilds the composition he keeps structure, composition, and color in mind. The process of discovery and sense of resolution is the result of reconstructing these compositions. A graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York, Mars often references his decades as a graphic designer in his work. Mars’ artwork is exhibited worldwide including museum, corporate, and private collections in Munich, Tokyo, Amsterdam, London, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, Paris, Aspen and Dallas. During his late teens Scott spent his free time sketching punks and designing album covers. It was this body of work that earned him a place at Cheltenham University, where he gained his fine art degree. In 2002, his much-loved studio burnt to the ground and he lost everything. Unable to continue both practically and emotionally, Scott threw himself into teaching, believing that his art career was now just part of his past. In 2011, Scott moved his family to Verona and, ironically, moved into an apartment directly above an art shop. Feeling inspired to pick up his brushes once again, he began to draw the stunning architecture. With his passion rekindled, he returned to England and built a studio in his garden. He hasn't stopped painting since. Whilst living in Taiwan, I studied calligraphy and discovered that this beautiful form is valued as ‘high art’. The art of calligraphy is used to express the inner beauty of the soul and spirit. Chinese calligraphy focusses on two types of beauty: the obvious aesthetics and the hidden beauty: the soul and life of a figure. Often, Chinese painters will say they are “writing a painting” and this concept has influenced my work heavily over the years. I want my works to tell their own story, for the viewer to read their energy. Each of my drawings is almost a manifestation of the frame of mind I am in at the time that I create it. As Henry Ward Beecher said, “Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures”. Somewhere along my path, I became engrossed in the need to convey movement, to create the illusion of life. Knowing how to create something in the line, how to find the light and the life in a figure is considerably harder than the layering, rendering and re-rendering I do when I’m painting with oils. I have to learn and understand the lines before I can make them work. It has taken years of practice, of feeling like I’m walking through a maze; making mistakes, going down the wrong road and learning whether to turn left or right. I’ve had to practice and practice to be able to create a piece in one go, it’s almost like doing it in one breath. Each time I pick up my tools, I am running out onto a tightrope – I can’t stop. I have to keep going to get to the other side. There is no time to question myself or correct mistakes because I have to get the marks down with confidence. I don’t get a second chance. I can’t rework it; every mark has to flow out of me to give the figure movement. If I haven’t studied the lines, if I don’t fully understand them the drawing just won’t work. Every single line on each of my drawings is inspired by a living object, the result being that every line has the energy of a living thing. My preferred medium is oil paint, I do sometimes create an acrylic underpainting first as I really like the way the oil paint behaves when applied over acrylic. I often dilute the oil paint down with turpentine in the initial stages and use it like watercolour. My Figurative painting is all about depicting the mood and intimacy within a moment, using a loose approach to my brushwork, trying to be spontaneous while carefully considering placement of strong contrasting values to create depth. I have spent thousands of hours drawing figures from life, this has been fundamental to the development of my figurative painting style - mainly because I get to observe directly the little details in body language that can suggest all manner of narrative, my favourite one is that everyone deserves to feel loved. I also teach figure drawing and painting which means I am constantly examining, tweaking and improving the process. My main inspiration comes from being outside, studying people, oceans, landscapes and skies in all weather conditions. I feel I have succeeded when I can look at my finished painting and recall accurately how i felt during the process of painting….a little like re reading a diary. One of my latest projects is about depicting skies and landscapes at altitude, I have a lot of fun exploring the skies in my paramotor, flying above, around and sometimes inside the clouds, the atmosphere and light at several thousand feet can be extremely fascinating and a real challenge to depict with a paint brush.
